Safer than : Mexican President Claims - after Attack on Four Americans
There is no problem travelling safely here, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador insisted Monday while addressing Washington’s official security warning depicting Mexico as a dangerous place to visit.
The warning was triggered by the March 3 attack and subsequent abduction of four Americans from Matamoros by members of a Mexican drug cartel - with two of the group later found dead.
Obrador accused US conservatives of masterminding an “anti-Mexico” campaign and pointed to 2022 data conveying a rise in American tourists visiting his country.
He has previously threatened to urge Mexican-Americans not to vote for Republicans if the criticism doesn’t let up.
