2022-10-23 09:13:20 Polkadot ecosystem falls 5% after founder Gavin Wood steps down as Parity CEO

The market cap of the Polkadot ecosystem has declined roughly 2.9% following news of Gavin Wood‘s departure as CEO. Polkadot founder Gavin Wood announced on Oct. 21, that he was quitting his role as CEO of Parity Technologies, the parent company behind the Polkadot and Kusama ecosystems.

Wood said his long-term passion has been to be a thinker, coder, designer, and architect. Consequently, taking off the CEO hat will allow him to return to work full-time on solving problems facing the Polkadot ecosystem. Following Wood’s departure, Parity co-founder Bjorn Wagner will take over as the new CEO. Wood who is a major shareholder in Parity Technologies will continue serving as a board member, but will not be involved in the day-to-day running of the company.

Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao has clarified that the exchange did not intentionally delegate a large amount of UNI tokens to itself, claiming it was a quirk of the Uniswap system. This has eased concerns that the exchange may have been making a move into the governance process of the Uniswap exchange.

Uniswap founder Hayden Adams noted on Twitter yesterday that the exchange had delegated 13 million UNI ($83.5 million) to itself. This made it the second-largest entity by voting power in the Uniswap DAO — the decentralized exchange's governance forum — second only to VC firm a16z. "So the transfers just increased the amount delegated - there was already a binance address that had delegated a smaller amount," he said.
